EEM
Eastern European Mission
Special Opportunity to Give this Sunday
This Sunday you
will find envelopes in the pews marked for a special gift to help supply Bibles
for the school children in the former Soviet country of Ukraine. At one time EEM was involved in printing
Bibles and smuggling them into the atheistic, communist countries. Now, governmental officials have actually
requested them to supply Bibles for their people, especially in their
schools. How can we explain this radical
change?
As we have
studied the prophecies of Isaiah, I have been impressed with the missionary
emphasis in passages describing the glories of the future Kingdom of God. Consider some of the following:
“The Lord’s temple will be
established . . . and all nations will stream to it” (Isa. 2:2
“For the earth will be full
of the knowledge of the LORD” (Isa. 11:9)
“The Root of Jesse will
stand as a banner . . . the nations will rally to him” (Isa. 11:10)
“In that day . . . make
known what he has done. . . his name is exalted” (Isa. 12:3)
“Aliens will join them . . .
And the house of David will possess the nations” (Isa. 14:1-2)
“Israel will bud and blossom
and fill all the world with fruit” (Isa. 27:8)
“The law will go out from me; my justice will become a
light to the nations” (Isa. 51:4)
“All the ends of the earth will see the salvation of
our God” (Isa. 52:10)
“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will
not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the
purpose for which I sent it” (Isa. 55:11)
“For my house will be called a house of prayer for all
nations” (Isa. 56:7)
After the announcement about EEM on last
Sunday, one of our children came to me.
He said that he would not be here next Sunday. He then took out his wallet and handed me a
$10 bill. I am reminded of the
statement, “A little child will lead them” (Isa. 11:6).
By support of world missions like EEM we
can show our faithfulness to a faithful God and participate in the exciting
things He is doing around the world.
When we faithfully proclaim his message of salvation to the nations,
then our faithful God will bless our service for him here at home. However, whether we are faithful or not the
Lord will accomplish his purpose in our world.
I pray that we will want to take advantage of our opportunities to be
part of what He is doing. Please
consider the opportunity in Eastern Europe prayerfully.

Charley’s Comments
Those who attended the UCSC Fall Retreat last weekend had a
great time. We held our retreat this
year at Horn’s Creek Resort in Ocoee, TN.
We arrived at Horn’s Creek late Friday night and got to bed around
1:30-2:00. We were up at 7:00 a.m. for a
day full of activity. We spent nearly 3
hours Saturday morning on a high and low ropes course. It was a lot of fun watching the students and
Dana go down the zip line. Kayla and
Christina, though, get the award for longest and loudest scream. The afternoon was spent rafting down the
beautiful, and cold, Ocoee River. I know
the river was cold because I spent significant time in the river this year! A couple of other students joined me, as
well. We ended the day sitting around a
great bonfire, singing praises to God and offering words of encouragement to
each other. A big word of thanks to
Danny and Chris and Lacosta Hays for driving and providing adult supervision,
without their help, the trip would not have been possible or nearly as much
fun.
Our
Monday night devotional next week will be at Hickory Wood Retirement Home. Once each semester we move our Monday night
devotional out to Hickory Wood and spend a few moments with the folks who
reside at the home. Our devotional will
start at 6:00 and end around 6:45. We
invite members of the church to come join us.
Youth and Family News
This
weekend we will have A.W.O.L. (A Work Of Love) Jr. We will
go to the homes of some of those who need assistance with their yard
work. The group will meet at the building at 10 a.m. and work until 2 p.m.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
On October 11th the Youth group/Cool Kids
are invited to play Miniature Golf with the Saints Alive!
We will meet at 4 p.m. at the building and go to Sullivan's for some mini-golf,
then return to the building for pizza and fellowship.
On October 18th there will be a Family
outing to Lambert's Cafe in
Sikeston, MO. for all of our families. We will leave from the
church parking lot at 10 a.m. There is a sign-up sheet on the library
window for you to sign so we can figure out transportation. If you plan
to go, please put your name on the list as well as the number that you expect
to attend with you!
Starting October 5th we will once again be
attempting our 30 Day Challenge. During this time we ask
the Youth to give up something for 30 days and use the time they would normally
spend on what they are giving up to establish a better prayer life and/or study
life. There is a sign up sheet in the Youth Room for this 30 Day Challenge. I've asked them
to commit to giving up something important
to them or not to commit. The whole purpose of this lesson is to
use the time to become more closely connected to Christ and miss what they give
up. I hope you will encourage your child to commit to this lesson!
Have a blessed week!
