2008 Report from Joseph Rikamahu (Indonesia)
Translated by
John Murdock
I am now well after a week at the hospital
with complications in my eyes because of diabetes. Now I must take insulin shots 2 times every
day and it really hurts! An automatic
injection system is available. But it is
very expensive, and my insurance will not pay for it.
The Congregation in Bogor: Last Sunday we
had 40 people for the service in Bogor.
Three WBS students and 2 neighbors near our place of worship worshipped
with us. We now have 750 students
enrolled in WBS studying lessons 1-4.
There are 200 of the students from South Sulawesi, 300 from Bogor and
Bandung; and the remainder are from Jakarta, Medan, Balikpapan and Manado. I hope we have still more students responding
to the newspaper ads we placed earlier.
Peter (Joseph and Shirley’s son) will be
married on the 31st of August 2008 at Bogor Lakeside. Brother Walter Rolos will perform the
ceremony. Please pray for them.
We have a new responsibility in which we
have 2 more children now with us. They
are Fahrol and Evi. Their mother passed
away and before she died she asked Shirley to take care of them.
South Sulawesi: There are new
developments in this area in which those who followed our training program are
teaching many people who hear and accept the gospel of Christ. At the time of their last report, 8 more
people had been baptized. Dima evangelized
35 families and restored 5 souls to the church.
The training is very valuable to them, and I hope we can hold it again
next year.
Central and East Sulawesi: The news from
these areas is good. They are happy to
have temporary buildings and accept the responsibility for improving the
buildings to more permanent status on their own.
West Sulawesi: We have a new
challenge in adding a work in this province.
We have made plans to go in September to work on evangelizing that
area. Ambo and Ramabay will go with
me. There are excellent prospects for
developing new members there.
That is all for now. Please pray for me and all the evangelists
and congregations in Indonesia. Thank
you and may God bless you.
In His service,
Joseph and Shirley
Charley’s Comments
If the weather cooperates we are planning to
have a tailgate party here on the church grounds this Saturday afternoon from
3:00-5:30. We’ll have a couple of grills
going and some hamburgers and dogs available to all, as long as they last. If you’d like to bring your own grill and
tailgate with us, please feel free to join us.
You are also welcome to use our grills, if you want to bring your own
food, but don’t want to fool with a grill.
The game starts at six so our pre-game activities will wind down, again,
weather permitting, around 5:30 or so.
Come out and enjoy the afternoon with us and then take in the football
game at MSU.
On Saturday, September 20th, the UCSC Alumni and Friends Association will be sponsoring a yard sale at the UCSC
parking lot. If you have items that you
would be willing to donate to this sale, please contact me soon. All items donated to the sale that are not
sold at the yard sale will be donated to Angels
Attic. If you donate items that do not
sell and you want those items back after the sale, you will need to pick up
your items after the sale on Saturday.
Otherwise, everything will be loaded up on Saturday and taken to Angels
Attic as soon as possible. If possible,
please price your items before bringing them to the UCSC. All proceeds from the sale will go into the
general fund of the UCSC Alumni and Friends Association. Thanks.

Updated Calendars for September and October
are now available. See me if you need a calendar. There will be extras
hanging on my office door and in the high school class room. The web site
has been updated as well. You can check that out at www.universityouth.org.
This Friday night (September 12th) we will
have a Parent's Night Out from 6 p.m. to
10 p.m. This is free of charge! We ask only that you bring a snack
(no popcorn please)! We will meet downstairs at 6 p.m. We will have
games, activities, and movies for the kids! Invite any friends you know
who may need a night out together.
Any of the older kids who would like to help
us are welcome to attend as well!
If your child has signed up for Celebration, their $45 is due as soon as
possible. For each child, I will need their t-shirt size, a signed
behavior contract, and a medical form (if they haven't filled one out
before). I will send the behavior contracts out to all those who have
signed up. If you thought you signed up but have not received an email,
then let me know immediately!
A.W.O.L. Jr. (A Work of Love) for our 2
to 10 year old group will be September 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We have a
few homes that need us to help clean their yards. If you know of others who
need simple clean up work done around their homes, please see me or Keith
Hays. We are able to help a limited number of people, so please let us
know as soon as possible.
Have a Blessed Week!
