Charley’s Comments
My family and I took a few days off this
past Labor Day weekend to spend some time together. Growing up I don’t remember our family taking
many vacations. With my father’s
disability, it wasn’t an easy thing to do, and I understand that. Perhaps that is partly why I cherish so much
the opportunities I have as a father and husband to spend time away from the
routine of life with my family. The time is rapidly approaching in our family
when opportunities for all of us to be together like we were this past weekend
will be rare and much more difficult to arrange. I am grateful for this past weekend. I hope you and your family had an enjoyable
weekend as well.
We’ve made it through the initial
onslaught of activities that come with the beginning of a new school year. We are now beginning to settle into our
regular, weekly activities at the UCSC.
Our first Bread and Blade will
begin this coming Monday evening. We’ll
begin the evening with a meal at 6:00 and follow that up with a devotional at
7:00. Each week we’ll conclude the
evening with some kind of activity that will afford our students a chance to
get together and just have some fun. You
are welcome to join us on Monday nights.
If you plan to eat with us, please let Dana, Kay, or Penny know. We want everyone to have plenty to eat.
And
by the way, just in case you heard through the grapevine, yes, Dana and I did
have a wreck on the way to work Tuesday morning. Fortunately, the only casualty was our
car. The insurance adjuster declared it
totaled on Wednesday. We appreciate those of you who inquired
about our physical condition. I’m happy
to say we’re fine, just a little sore and banged up.
Youth and Family News
We had a great time at Family Day at the park last weekend! It
was hot! Thanks to everyone who came and brought stuff to share! We
will do this again in the near future.
I
am sorry that I'm behind on the September calendar. My work computer
crashed (again) and the current calendar is in it. I am supposed to get
the computer back Friday. I will try to have an updated calendar by Monday. Here
are some things to put on your schedule:
·
September
12th - Parent's Night Out 6-10 p.m.(downstairs at the building)
·
September
27th - A.W.O.L. Jr. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
·
October
3-5th - Zoe Conference (Roy and Angie will be away to attend that)
·
October
18th - Family Trip to Lambert's Cafe 10 a.m.
·
October
25th - Neewollah (Youth) 7 p.m.
·
October
26th - Trunk or Treat (Cool Kids) 6 p.m.
If you have one of the
calendars I passed out at the parents meeting, toss it out. The dates
listed above are different. We had to shuffle a few things around to
accommodate the Zoe conference.
If you have any questions,
please let me know!
Thanks, roy
