Charley’s Campus Comments

Each summer incoming freshmen at MSU attend an event called Summer Orientation.  During this two-day event new students and their parents are introduced to the campus, given a tour of the community, allowed to register for classes, and made aware of the many organizations on campus that serve the needs of students.  One of the sessions that a student can choose to attend is Campus Ministry.  During this session, various campus ministers are given a few moments to introduce themselves to the students and say a quick few words about their particular ministry and the importance of campus ministry in general.

Unfortunately, it has been my experience that students from the Churches of Christ rarely choose to attend this session.  However, when students from our fellowship do attend, I believe it’s important for us to be there to encourage and make contact with them.  For this reason, we strive to have someone in attendance if at all possible.  This past weekend, true to form, we had one student from the Churches of Christ, that I’m aware of, to attend the Campus Ministry session.  Her name was Emily.  I’m glad I was there to meet her, and hopefully we’ll see her again when school starts in a few weeks. One more Summer Orientation is scheduled for July 22- 23.  Once again, we plan to be present in hope that we will have an opportunity to meet and connect with students.

UCSC students will be playing Wallyball at the MSU Wellness Center Tuesday night as part of the activities for Summer Orientation students.  This is one of the many ways we try to connect with students when they come to campus.

Youth and Family News

Don't forget, VBS is Monday, July 21, through Thursday, the 24th from 6:30 – 8:00 nightly.   A Family Cook Out is planned for Friday, July 25.  We will hand out awards and prizes for those who bring the most visitors. Please invite your friends and family!

We still need people who are willing to help us supply snacks for the kids during Vacation Bible School. Please give your donation to Traci Green or Angie.

Coming soon on August 2, the Youth Group will have their "Luau" at Walter and Patty Mehr’s house.  We will play games, swim, and grill hamburgers and hot dogs!  I will post a sign- up sheet in the next week or so near my office.

Our Note Takers have a trip planned for August 8 - 10 to St. Louis.  We will go to the zoo and the Science Center.  We will also go up into the famous "St. Louis Arch.”  Make sure (if you are a Note Taker) that you bring me your notes each and every week!!
