Summer Series 2008
Beginning this
Wednesday
June 18 at 7:00
p.m.
Week One: “Mission to Indonesia”
John Murdock &
Wayne Horton
In January of this year, John and Wayne flew to
Indonesia together to visit with and survey the mission work we support through
Joseph and Shirly Rikumahu. Wayne
returned home after two weeks, but John remained in Indonesia for a month. Upon return, both excitedly reported on their
visit with Joseph and Shirly, the new churches that have been planted on the
island of Sulawesi and the devastation of the mudslides on Java. They have been anxiously awaiting an
opportunity to share pictures and a full report with the entire church here.
College & Adult
Classes in the auditorium.
Full Summer Series
schedule available on Information tables.
This Sunday is Father’s Day
Father–In Any Language
This was translated from a
Dutch magazine. It shows that families
are pretty much the same the world over.
4
YEARS: My Daddy can do anything.
7
YEARS: My Dad knows a lot…a whole lot.
8
YEARS: My father doesn’t know quite
everything.
12
YEARS: Oh, well, naturally Father
doesn’t know that either.
14
YEARS: Father? Hopelessly old-fashioned!
21
YEARS: Oh, that man is out of date; what
did you expect?
25
YEARS: He knows a little bit about it,
but not much.
30
YEARS: Must find out what Dad thinks
about it.
35
YEARS: A little patience; let’s get
Dad’s meaning first.
50
YEARS: What would Dad have thought about
that?
60
YEARS: My Dad knew literally everything.
65
YEARS: I wish I could talk it over with
Dad once more.
Be
with us this Sunday morning as Charley discusses the father of the prodigal son
as a model for fathers today (Luke 15).
Charley’s Campus Comments
This coming Sunday night a group of our UCSC students are going out to the Cuba Church of Christ for their evening services. The folks at Cuba have graciously given us the opportunity to conduct their evening services. Andrew Jones, who is from Cuba, will be leading worship. I will share some comments about the UCSC ministry and Jonathan Lewis will close the service with a short devotional thought. Afterwards, we’ve been invited to join some of their youth at the home of a member for food and another devotional. We are very thankful for this opportunity and look forward to meeting some future MSU students.
Later this summer, on Sunday July 13th, a group will visit the Pottsville Church of Christ in Graves County, where Carl Hardy, a UCSC alumnus, preaches. Vernon Gantt will be speaking at their morning service and hopefully a good group of our students will be able to attend as well.
We continue to meet this summer on Tuesday nights at the UCSC. We meet at 6:30 for dinner, and we follow that with a fun activity. If you know of any college students or college age young people who would like to join us, please encourage them to do so. We welcome their participation. This coming Tuesday night we’ll be at the MSU Wellness Center playing Wallyball.
It’s also Summer Orientation, so we will be looking to meet some new students. Come join us! If you are able to help MSU with cookies for Summer Orientation, please sign sheet on library window.

IN DADDY’S STEPS
I watched him playing around my door,
My neighbor’s little boy of four.
I wondered why a child would choose
To wear his dad’s old worn-out shoes
I saw him try with all his might
To make the laces snug and tight.
I smiled to see him walk, and then
He’d only step right out again.
I heard him say his voice so glad,
“I want to be just like my dad.”
I hope his dad his steps would choose
Safe for his son to wear his shoes.
And then a shout and cry of joy,
A “Hello Dad” and a “Hi-yu, boy!”
They walked along in measured stride
Each face aglow with love and pride.
“What have you done today, my lad?”
“I tried to wear your old shoes, Dad,
They’re big, but when I am a man
I’ll wear your shoes, I know I can.”
They
stopped & stood there hand in hand
He saw his son’s tracks in the sand,
His word—a prayer—came back to me,
Lord, let my steps lead him to thee.”
